Founded in 1997, University Djilali Bounaama Khemis Miliana (UDBKM) is a public institution located in the city of Khemis Miliana, in Aïn Defla Province, Algeria.
The university currently welcomes over 18,500 students, supported by 829 faculty members and 783 administrative and technical staff.
UDBKM stands out for the quality of its teaching, its commitment to scientific research,and its openness to international partnerships. It offers more than 104 accredited
programs divided among six faculties and one institute, covering diverse fields such as Medecine, Sciences and Technology, Law and Political Sciences, Economics, Literature and Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural and Life Sciences, as well as Physical Education and Sports Sciences (STAPS).

Academic Programs (Offer of Studies)
University Djilali Bounaama Khemis Miliana offers a diverse range of study programs accessible to international students at three levels: Bachelor’s (Licence), Master’s, and Doctorate degrees. These programs are provided across seven faculties, one higher school, and one institute, covering the following areas:

University Djilali Bounaama is engaged in an internationalization strategy through academic partnerships with institutions in France, Romania, Turkey, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. The university actively participates in Erasmus+ programs,allowing students and faculty to benefit from enriching academic mobility at world-renowned universities such as Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (Romania), University of Cádiz (Spain), Akdeniz University (Turkey),and Iğdır University (Turkey).
The Relex Office (External Relations) coordinates these agreements, welcomes foreign students, and supports outbound student mobility.
Application and Admission
International students wishing to join University Djilali Bounaama must follow the procedure set by the Ministry of Higher Education via the Study in Algeria portal. They must prepare an application file that includes:

Khemis Miliana, originally founded as “Affreville” in 1848, is now a city of approximately 85,000 inhabitants located 120 km west of Algiers, in Aïn Defla Province.
It enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, making it an agreeable setting for year-round studies.
The city’s strategic location is highlighted by its position on National Road No. 4 and the East-West highway. It lies at the foot of the Zaccar Mountains, which form a nature reserve rich in scenic views and hiking trails, with the fertile High Chelif plain spreading at their base. A short drive south leads to the historic Medina of Miliana, reflecting the region’s Andalusian and Ottoman heritage. Nearby, the majestic Taourga Oak Forests
and traditional hammams invite relaxation and heritage exploration.
In terms of local culture, Khemis Miliana is known for its farm products like Miliana apples, olives, and dates, and for its handcrafted goods such as Berber carpets, pottery,
and woven baskets. Local traditions blend Arab and Berber influences, visible in folk festivals and weekly markets offering dishes like tajine, mhencha, and mhadjeb.

Practical Information for International Students
Visa Formalities
To study in Algeria, international students must obtain a long-stay student visa (Category “D”). The process begins by ubmitting an application on the Ministry of Higher Education portal (Study in Algeria), which details general conditions, application deadlines, and required documents such as transcripts, a valid passport, and a letter of acceptance from the university (issued by the Relex Office upon approval of the file).
After initial approval, the Algerian consulate or embassy in the student’s home country processes and issues the visa according to its procedures.
Health Insurance and Social Security Upon arrival, international students must register with the Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale (CNAS) or, if that is not possible, obtain a private health insurance recognized by Algerian authorities. Since 2018, CNAS provides basic coverage for foreign students.

In the meantime, students can purchase local private insurance from companies like SAA or CAAT, which cover standard medical expenses.
Currency Exchange and Local Banks
The national currency is the Algerian Dinar (DZD). Official currency exchange offices are available at airports (notably Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers)
and city centers in Algiers or Khemis Miliana. Public banks (Banque Nationale d’Algérie – BNA, Banque Extérieure d’Algérie – BEA, Banque de Développement Local – BDL) allow foreigners to open accounts in DZD if they present a passport, proof of student housing or residency, and proof of university enrollment. International credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted at most ATMs and merchants.
Transportation to Khemis Miliana
* From Algiers International Airport (Houari Boumediene): Take a long-distance taxi to Algiers city center, then catch the SNTF train from Algiers –Agha station to Khemis Miliana station. From there, a local taxi or university shuttle will take you to the campus (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes total travel time).
* From Algiers downtown: You can also board the SNTF train (Algiers–Oran line) directly to Khemis Miliana station, followed by a taxi to the university (about 1 hour 15 minutes by train plus 10–15 minutes by car).
* By rental car or direct taxi: The East-West Highway (APC4) connects Algiers to Khemis Miliana in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes (distance around 115 km).
Once in the city, university buses are available to shuttle students directly to campus.

Upon arrival, visit the Daira (administrative district office) in Khemis Miliana to
obtain your residence certificate, which is required to finalize your administrative
