Visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Djilali Bounaama  Khemis Miliana University  In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, observed annually on February 11, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Kramberger Mendek, paid an official visit on Wednesday to Djilali Bounaama Khemis Miliana University. She was warmly welcomed by the university’s administrative staff, professors, and students, led by the Rector,Prof. Mohammed Chikh Berrrabah, along with the Vice-Rectors, Deans, faculty members, and female students from various scientific disciplines. The event was also attended by local authorities, represented by the Secretary General of the Wilaya, the Head of Khemis Miliana District, and the President of the Municipal People’s Assembly. On this occasion, the Ambassador delivered a scientific lecture at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences for the benefit of female students, professors, and administrative staff. Notably, women represent 65.73% of the total student population and 61.44% of the teaching staff at the university. This international initiative, launched by the United Nations in 2015, aims to strengthen the role of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). According to the guest of honor, it also seeks to empower women and support their effective participation in sustainable development, particularly in scientific fields, while expanding opportunities for innovation and leadership. In her address, the Ambassador praised the strong bilateral relations between Algeria and Slovenia, especially in the areas of higher education, scientific research, academic cooperation, and knowledge exchange. The event was marked by dynamic interaction between female students, professors, and the Ambassador through fruitful discussions focusing on scientific research, academic mobility, and institutional cooperation between the two countries. At the conclusion of this productive visit, the Ambassador toured several scientific and educational facilities of the university, particularly those of the new university complex, which has a capacity of 6,000 seats.
